Cat. #0010391: CHESTER CLUTE

Scarce inscribed fountain pen signature on a 4x6-inch pink autograph album page, acquired in-person, circa 1942, by inveterate collector and movie set designer Bob Stapleton.  Slight show-through from a Mary Carlisle signature on the verso; otherwise, in good condition.  Diminutive, bald-pated, mustached character actor Chester Clute began his career in Burns and Allen comedy shorts, and went on to scene-stealing appearances in classic films like Mr. Moto's Gamble (1938), You Can't Take It with You (1938), The Smiling Ghost (1941), Hold Back the Dawn (1941), The Fleet's In (1942), Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942), Pardon My Sarong (1942), Sagebrush Law (1943), Du Barry Was a Lady (1943), Crime Doctor (1943), Swing Fever (1943), Reckless Age (1944), Arsenic and Old Lace (1944), Mildred Pierce (1945), Anchors Aweigh (1945), Cinderella Jones (1946), To Each His Own (1946), Spook Busters (1946), Angel on My Shoulder (1946), and fantasy's Mighty Joe Young (1949).
