Cat. #001932: ANNA NEAGLE

Scarce and beautiful vintage 7.5 x 9.5-inch black and white publicity portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in-person for inveterate collector Joseph Paflofsky in 1938. In good condition for its age. Beloved English singer, and stage and film star Dame Anna Neagle was one of Great Britain's main box-office draws for 25 years, thrilling war-torn audiences with her glamorous, sophisticated characterizations in lightweight musicals, comedies and historical dramas.  She was especially renowned for her portrayals of real-life heroines, such as Nell Gwynn, Queen Victoria, Florence Nightingale, and Edith Cavell. The star abandoned the screen in 1958 and her autograph is quite elusive in any format.
